LOS ANGELES—The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards took place at the Peacock Theater in L.A. Live on Monday. Jesse Collins Entertainment produced the show for the fourth time in a row.
Host Mariska Hargitay began her duties in New York, steaming her outfits alongside New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson (in a pre-recorded sketch) before appearing live in Hollywood to perform an opening musical number.
That night, the Emmys were competing for viewer eyeballs against an NFL game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Denver Broncos. In another pre-recorded sketch, featuring a cameo from Taylor Swift, Hargitay referred to the game and pondered whether the pop star would be able to attend the show since she’d likely be supporting her husband, Chiefs player Travis Kelce. P.S. Taylor did not, in fact, attend the Emmys.
The evening also included five-time Emmy winner Michael J. Fox returning to the stage to accept the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.
Nielsen reports that this year’s broadcast had 6.7 million viewers, a 9% decrease from last year’s ceremony on CBS, which brought in 7.4 million viewers.
But where fans tune in next is the big question. According to Variety, the Television Academy is in advanced talks to move the annual Emmy telecast to Amazon Prime Video—taking the ceremony off broadcast TV for the first time since its start in 1949. It would end the 31-year tradition of rotating the ceremony annually between ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC. This year, it aired on NBC and Peacock.
This follows an ongoing trend that includes YouTube recently grabbing the Oscars from ABC. That awards show will start streaming to a global audience in 2029.
Beyond the show, glittering pre- and post-parties were still an industry mainstay, with award winners and talent celebrating during the days leading up to and the hours after the big event.

Emmy Awards Red Carpet

For the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, Unboxed Group partnered with NBCUniversal to design and co-produce the red carpet arrivals experience. The creative brought together the prestige of the Emmys, the Peacock brand, and NBCUniversal’s centennial through a refined visual language of midnight blue, champagne gold, and bone. Every shade was carefully developed and tested to sit seamlessly within the Emmys’ established identity while giving NBCUniversal’s 100-year milestone a presence of its own. Guests entered beneath a monumental gold arch, opening onto a dramatic sightline through the carpet. A sculptural three-tier centennial moment, crowned by an illuminated NBC 100 emblem, created a powerful visual anchor at the heart of the arrivals experience.
Rather than a traditional repeating step-and-repeat, the press line unfolded across three distinct environments designed around how talent would actually be photographed: a tonal blue composition; a clean gold field allowing the Emmy mark to command the frame; and a richly fluted midnight blue backdrop punctuated with metallic branding. Deep navy draping wrapped the entire experience, creating a continuous, polished frame from arrivals through the press and trade tent. Photo: Courtesy of Unboxed Group | Beyond the Light
Television Academy’s Governors Gala

Following the 78th Emmy Awards telecast, Emmy winners, nominees, and television luminaries continued the celebration at the Television Academy’s Governors Gala, the Emmy’s official “after-party,” where the cavernous Los Angeles Convention Center's West Hall was transformed into “The Garden After Dark.” For the 25th consecutive year, the gala was designed and produced by Sequoia, under the direction of Barb Held, senior vice president of special events for the Television Academy. Guests entered beneath a suspended, stylized landscape of geometric shapes, cascading greenery, and florals, all creating the sensation of an enchanted, floating garden. The design was illuminated in gently shifting light blending the prismatic colors of this year’s Emmy key art—rich reds, oranges, greens, and soft blues. Studio Left handled ceiling design and fabrication, while ShowPro provided lighting. Photo: Courtesy of Sequoia

A reimagined floor plan transformed how guests experienced and moved through the immense space. The main promenade led to a central piazza and the Emmy Winners Circle, which featured the Emmy statue as the visual focal point of the celebration. Photo: Courtesy of Sequoia

“Barb challenges us every year to create something guests have never experienced before,” said Sequoia CEO Cheryl Cecchetto. “That partnership allows us to keep reinventing this extraordinary space while ensuring that the evening remains, first and foremost, a celebration of the Emmy and the television community."
The environment incorporated 5,450 individual silk floral stems, including 50 pincushions, 100 Oncidium orchids, 150 calla lilies, 200 Cymbidium orchids, 300 ranunculus, 350 Mokara orchids, 500 French marigolds, 600 roses, 600 spray roses, 750 dahlias, and an extraordinary 2,000 marigolds. Floral Crush Studio provided the florals, while BBJ La Tavola handled the linens. Bright Event Rentals and Revelry Event Designers provided rentals.
The overhead greenery was supported by 6,750 square feet of camouflage netting, supplemented by another 3,500 square feet—approximately 700 pounds—of greenery and 250 additional flowers. Among the largest botanical elements were custom-built trees standing 14 feet high and 12 feet across, each weighing approximately 450 pounds, as well as towering, live cypress trees. Chefs prepared 12,000 pieces of handmade agnolotti, 600 pounds of prime rib for French dips, 300 pounds of bluefin tuna for chef Jet Tila’s handrolls, and 600 pounds of short ribs braised for 72 hours. Chef Richard Lauter’s Savore Cuisine anchored the evening’s culinary program, joined by a roster of specialty culinary partners.

Disney Emmys After-Party

For the first time, Unboxed Group designed and produced the Disney Emmys After-Party, which transformed historic LA cathedral Vibiana into an immersive world inspired by the imagination, storytelling, and legacy of The Walt Disney Company. Photo: Unboxed Group | Beyond the Light

Before guests reached the main room, they walked through this dreamlike arrival corridor wrapped in custom drapery and wallpaper, which featured nominated titles floating across a painted cloudscape. Photo: Unboxed Group | Beyond the Light

Inside the venue, more than 7,000 yards of teal drapery transformed the grand hall into a layered, ethereal dreamscape. Five bespoke chandeliers, reaching up to 11 feet in height, became sculptural centerpieces overhead that cast the room in a warm amber glow. Intimate VIP enclaves were tucked among mature olive trees and lush greenery. Photo: Unboxed Group | Beyond the Light

An embossed gold DJ booth, upholstered teal panels, and cascading foliage served as a focal point at the center of the room. Photo: Unboxed Group | Beyond the Light

Guests could also move into the garden for bites from Michelin-recognized Holbox and Two Rose, while DJ Reflex soundtracked the evening. Photo: Unboxed Group | Beyond the Light

Three of LA’s top chefs—Gilberto Cetina of Holbox, David Wilcox of Two Rose, and Neal Fraser of Redbird—brought their restaurants’ signature sensibilities to the celebration. The menu went well beyond standard party fare, with Baja bluefin tuna and Santa Barbara uni tostadas, grilled Mexican shrimp and yellowtail tacos, seasonal corn pie, meatball pie, and more. HBO Max’s Emmy After-Party

HBO Max returned to San Vicente Bungalows in West Hollywood to celebrate its 122 nominations. The streamer ended the evening with 21 awards, including top honors for The Pitt and DTF St. Louis in the Outstanding Drama series and Outstanding Limited series, respectively. The guest list included HBO Max talent, such as Noah Wyle, Jean Smart, Mark Ruffalo, Jason Bateman, David Harbour, Linda Cardellini, and Richard Gadd. Talent arrived against a bespoke, floor-to-ceiling green limewash step-and-repeat, anchored by a striking nine-foot-tall HBO Max logo crafted from hand-poured resin. A seven-foot-tall ice installation designed by LA-based Disco Cubes, in collaboration with Penny Pound Ice, doubled as a caviar and martini bar. Guests also enjoyed live karaoke by Kara Karaoke and a custom claw machine by Lucky Claw, where playful house party essentials and vintage, limited-edition HBO merchandise were up for grabs. FX x Vanity Fair Emmys Celebration

Once again, FX and Vanity Fair hosted their annual joint Emmys party at the historic Chateau Marmont. Photo: Line 8 Photography

The cocktail party unfolded across the hotel’s living room and outdoor terrace. “We love coming back to produce this pre-party alongside FX’s head of events, Amanda Van Goethen, every year because it has such an easy and low-key celebratory vibe going into the big night,” explained Kate Mazzuca, creative director and founder of Bespoke Bohéme, the production company behind the event. Photo: Line 8 Photography

“The Chateau is always such an effortlessly cool environment for any celebration (and probably my favorite spot in the city), so we really lean into its elegant and much-loved aesthetic for our design cues. The teams at FX and Vanity Fair wanted to eschew a traditional press wall this year in lieu of something more unexpected and organic, so we decided to bring the outside in and build a pop-up garden inside their iconic lobby, adding some warm candlelight and vintage rugs for some additional texture and flair,” Mazzuca said. Additional vendors include The Petal Workshop (florals); Stuart Signs & Designs (fabrication); Shine On Lighting Co and Launch AV (lighting and AV); Bespoke Bohéme and Found Rental Co (decor and furniture rentals); and Giovanni’s Tiramisu (F&B).
