The Delhi Crafts Council’s annual exhibition, Sarees of India 2026, is underway in New Delhi, bringing together traditional saris and weaving practices from across the country. Running from 15-17 October 2026 at Aga Khan Hall, New Delhi, the exhibition features 22 stalls showcasing India’s diverse handloom traditions.
The exhibition highlights regional weaving techniques, textile craftsmanship and the cultural significance of saris. It provides a platform for artisans to present their work while offering visitors an opportunity to explore the diversity of India’s handloom heritage.
A special section dedicated to revival weaves draws attention to efforts to preserve traditional textile techniques and sustain the skills of artisan communities. The initiative highlights the importance of keeping heritage crafts relevant while supporting the craftspeople who continue to practise these weaving traditions.
A key highlight is the presentation of the Sutrakar Samman 2026 to Vijay Kumar Tanti, a master weaver from Bihar, in recognition of his work with the traditional Bawan Buti sari. The honour acknowledges the contribution of skilled artisans to preserving India’s textile legacy.
Through its showcase of regional saris, revival initiatives and artisan recognition, the exhibition brings greater attention to the craftsmanship and cultural knowledge embedded in India’s handloom sector. It also creates opportunities for visitors to engage with traditional textiles and learn about the weaving practices behind them.
The three-day exhibition continues until 17 October 2026, offering visitors an opportunity to experience India’s rich handloom traditions and the work of artisans dedicated to preserving them.
