The International Association of Professional Congress Organisers (IAPCO) has published a Sustainability Handbook to help professional congress organisers integrate environmental and social considerations into their businesses and events.

Developed by the IAPCO Sustainability Committee with support from Business Events Australia and the Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD), the handbook provides practical guidance, frameworks and examples for sustainability planning. It addresses both internal business operations and the delivery of meetings and events, with an emphasis on measurable progress and continuous improvement.
IAPCO Sustainability Handbook Supports Sustainable Meetings and Events
The publication forms part of IAPCO’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes monitoring the association’s carbon footprint, aligning future activities with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and supporting the JMIC Net Zero Carbon Events initiative. IAPCO President Sissi Lignou said the handbook is intended to help members make informed decisions throughout the event planning process and work towards measurable environmental, social and economic outcomes. The collaboration with Business Events Australia also supports the IAPCO Sustainability Award, which recognises sustainability initiatives within the association’s global community.
