国际制造技术展(IMTS)延长McCormick Place合约至2034年
IMTS Extends McCormick Place Agreement Through 2034
The International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) will remain at Chicago’s McCormick Place through 2034 under an agreement adding its 2032 and 2034 editions. Organizers estimate the two additional shows will generate a combined $500 million in economic impact for Chicago and Illinois.
AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology, which produces the biennial show, announced the extension Oct. 29. The agreement continues a relationship spanning six decades and secures business that reaches beyond the event’s public days.
“IMTS spends nearly 30 days on campus, employing thousands of workers to set up, operate, and dismantle the show,” said Larita Clark, CEO of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA), which owns McCormick Place.
Alongside the extension, the organizations announced that IMTS and the Gene Haas Foundation are contributing a combined $101,000 to Chicago Public Schools (CPS). The funding will support science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, robotics, and exposure to manufacturing careers.
MORE THAN SHOW DAYS
According to Clark, IMTS generated more than $1.8 billion in estimated economic impact for Chicago and Illinois between 2016 and 2026. The newly secured editions carry an estimated impact of $250 million each.
The show brings manufacturing professionals, equipment, and technology to McCormick Place every two years. Its reach also extends to hotels, restaurants, transportation providers, and other local businesses.
“These two additional shows will generate an estimated $500 million in economic impact, supporting jobs and bringing business to our hotels, restaurants, and local shops,” Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said.
The extension reflects a shared commitment among AMT, MPEA, and Choose Chicago, the city’s destination marketing organization. According to Choose Chicago President and CEO Kristen Reynolds, IMTS attracts participants from more than 110 countries.
A RUN TOWARD MANUFACTURING CAREERS
The education funding includes $74,000 from the Gene Haas Foundation and $27,000 from IMTS. The organizations described the effort as a partnership with Haas Automation and the foundation.
The manufacturing community raised IMTS’ contribution through its Miles for Manufacturing 5K Run/Walk. AMT and GIE Media produce the fundraising program, which holds events throughout the year to support students and STEM education.
The CPS funding will support three areas:
- Citywide STEM events, design challenges, and industry partnerships.
- Connections between K–12 and higher education, including hands-on access to manufacturing equipment, 3D printers, and robotics.
- Computer science and robotics programs, including FIRST robotics teams that develop coding, design, machining, engineering, and fundraising skills.
The investment also builds on the show’s Smartforce Student Summit. At IMTS 2026, the summit welcomed 14,447 students, faculty, and staff. More than half came from Illinois, including more than 2,000 from Chicago.
“You can’t be what you can’t see, and that’s exactly why getting students in front of manufacturing technology matters so much,” said Catherine Ross, AMT’s director of community engagement.
“At the Smartforce Student Summit, we see firsthand what happens when students get to experience robotics, automation, and advanced manufacturing up close,” Ross said. “Suddenly, a career they might never have considered becomes a real possibility.”
Representatives marked the contract extension and education investment during an Oct. 29 event at McCormick Place, including a ceremonial check presentation to CPS.
