The nine-day Shilp Samagam Mela 2026 concluded today 19 October 2026, at the Mysuru Dasara Exhibition Grounds, providing a marketplace for traditional artisans and small producers from 12 states and Union Territories. Organised through national corporations under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the fair showcased handicrafts, handloom products and other artisan-made goods, with a focus on strengthening market access and livelihood opportunities.

The exhibition featured 83 stalls, including 80 allotted to artisans, with 37 women artisans among the participants. Products on display included handloom sarees, spices, pickles, incense sticks, honey products, block-printed items, leather goods, wooden toys, terracotta products, artificial jewellery, rosewood wall hangings and home furnishings.

Union Social Justice and Empowerment Secretary Sudhansh Pant visited the mela on 18 October, inspecting stalls and interacting with stall managers and visitors. The visit highlighted the government’s emphasis on supporting entrepreneurship and advancing the economic empowerment of disadvantaged communities.

The mela was organised with the National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC), the National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation (NBCFDC) and the National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation (NSKFDC). These organisations work to improve access to financial assistance and livelihood opportunities for eligible beneficiaries.

The initiative primarily supports beneficiaries from Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes and Safai Karamcharis, enabling artisans to present their products directly to potential customers. Participants were provided free stalls, alongside support for specified participation-related expenses, including travel, transportation of goods and meals.

The fair also served as a platform to raise awareness about government schemes and financial assistance available to eligible beneficiaries. The Ministry is additionally promoting BHARAT TULIP (Traditional Artisans’ Upliftment Livelihood Programme) to improve product visibility and expand online market access in India and overseas.

According to the Ministry, Shilp Samagam Melas have benefited 975 artisans across 13 fairs since 2022. The Mysuru edition was the first fair under the initiative in the 2026-27 financial year, continuing efforts to connect traditional craftsmanship with wider markets and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
