The ISLRR Vision 2025 Congress demonstrates how collaboration can make accessibility, inclusion and community engagement an integral part of an association meeting’s legacy.
Held from 8–12 September 2025, the congress brought together the international low vision research and rehabilitation community in Florence. Beyond its scientific programme, the event set out to create meaningful benefits for people living with visual impairment and the wider local community.
Making this ambition a reality required close collaboration between the International Society for Low Vision Research and Rehabilitation (ISLRR), OIC Group, Destination Florence Convention Bureau and Firenze Fiera, alongside local experts in ophthalmology and rehabilitation.
From accessibility audits and venue improvements to connections with local organisations, the initiative placed inclusion at the heart of the congress experience. Partners included the National School of Guide Dogs, the Braille Printing and Typhlodidactic Centre, Meyer University Hospital, the Uffizi Galleries and Dark on the Road.
The Blue Paper also recognises the scientific contributions of Low Vision Academy, PRISMA and the Polo Nazionale IAPB Italia, and features Comunicazione Italiana .NET and OIC Group.
Vision 2025 demonstrates how associations, industry partners, destination organisations, venues and local communities can work together to extend the impact of a congress beyond its programme, making accessibility a lasting commitment rather than an afterthought.
