隐藏嘉宾:黑山Luštica Bay中心区Angsana旗下Centrale酒店探访
HIDDEN GUEST: Centrale Luštica Bay by Angsana
The story of this property unfolds on the Luštica peninsula atop a hill that once housed a Yugoslav National Army barracks. Today, the former military complex is being repurposed as the new Centrale town. Several buildings have been thoughtfully preserved and restored, including a military warehouse that now houses the hotel. Radmila, a local and member of the hotel’s F&B team, happily explained that a former Yugoslav National Army storehouse stood here. Far from an immaterial side note, her remark summarises the hotel’s entire narrative.
Piazza Centrale is the heart of upper Luštica Bay. Adjoining the neatly arranged square is the hotel, two restaurants, a cafe, a shop and a pharmacy.
Even now, Piazza Centrale serves as the village’s shared living room, and its importance will only grow. More importantly, the village is tied to the old town on one end and was conceived to connect the local community. It is heartwarming to see locals meet for coffee at the Piazza. On the other side is the lower, coastal part of Luštica Bay, anchored by The Chedi, the marina, and apartment houses. If the lower part is particularly vacationer-oriented, the Centrale part is much more urban, local and cosmopolitan. That is one reason it boasts more charm than expected for a newly built townlet. Part of the destination is still under construction, so a crane or construction fence might mar the views. Yet, the finished parts are extremely tidy. The walking paths are well thought out, the horticulture is exemplary, and everything is within arm’s reach. Lovćen guards the village atop the hill, sunlit like an imposing natural amphitheatre at dawn and dusk.

The greatest mystery is road traffic through Budva and along the coast. In summer, the winding roads often turn into endless bumper-to-bumper lines.
The village grew alongside new road infrastructure. An excellent road leads from Tivat to the hotel, and its main logistical advantage is its proximity to Tivat Airport. In summer, the airport feels within shouting distance. Planes depart and land around the clock, and the number of connections, particularly charter flights, is surprisingly rich. However, the terminal is weary, infrastructurally underwhelming, and has been operating at maximum capacity for some time. In winter, connections drop significantly. This is typical for the Montenegrin coast. Alternatively, guests can fly to Podgorica Airport, around an hour and a half away. The greatest mystery is road traffic through Budva and along the coast. In summer, the winding roads often turn into endless bumper-to-bumper lines. We advise event organisers to allow extra time for transfers if organising an event here.
Centrale Luštica Bay offers its own buses and shuttles around the area and even has electric charging stations at several locations. The logistics are sound, even if they aren’t presented very transparently. For instance, guests cannot drive directly to the hotel. The hotel staff call guests before arrival and explain the route. A simple map would help eliminate this predicament. The same applies to the transfers to the beach and other parts of the resort. Although services are available, guests often have to ask for them explicitly. These details are what differentiate a good experience from an excellent one.

The architects infused the new townlet with a contemporary Mediterranean character while retaining the hotel’s industrial soul.
They did not turn the former military warehouse into a setting; instead, they used its robust parameters and silhouette as the starting point for the entire design concept. Metal doors, steel frames, perforated glass, expansive glass surfaces, and terracotta colours in the corridors and passageways evoke a vintage workshop. The result feels authentic, yet never raw or cold.
Several designer pieces feel as if they were picked from a forlorn warehouse, carefully restored and given a new lease of life.
Within the hotel rooms, wooden flooring, delicate carpets, handpicked textiles, and plush furniture soften the industrial rigidity. Several designer pieces feel as if they were picked from a forlorn warehouse, carefully restored and given a new lease of life. These details add depth and keep it from slipping into generic industrial chic. We found the lobby design exceptionally well done. The reception, bar, breakfast room, and restaurant form an open community space, joined by a spacious community table. During the day, this space doubles as the hotel’s living room; at night, it functions as a restaurant, and, if privatised, as a compelling event venue. Although the space isn’t oversized, it is warm, lively, and extremely photogenic. The former military warehouse has become the new living room of Luštica Bay’s new community.

Stunning design can be bought; sincere hospitality cannot. Radmila was welcoming and eager to share the property’s story. The young waiter who served us on both days was equally attentive and hospitable. Danilo, the receptionist, was a bit more reserved, yet absolutely professional. The team is youthful, well-trained and devoted.
Most importantly, every staff member understands and embodies the hotel’s concept. The laid-back uniforms match the interior beautifully.
The menu at Centrale Brasserie is brief but refined. Prices are friendly; the dishes we tried were tasty, light and dominated by healthy greens. This isn’t Michelin-style cuisine, and it doesn’t try to be; it’s a contemporary lifestyle bistro that embraces the less-is-more philosophy. We were pleasantly surprised by the dish selection. The hotel offers in-house-brewed craft beer in three styles, while its rich wine list highlights the finest names in Montenegrin and Serbian winemaking. The rakija selection is equally strong, including products from Zarić Distillery.
Breakfast follows similar footsteps. The modern interpretation of Eggs Benedict was sublime, though the sweets section was less impressive. Generic pre-baked croissants have no place in such a thoughtful hotel. We also missed better labelling of the source of local cheese, prosciutto and other ingredients. Nonetheless, the culinary story is compelling because it does not go over the top. Everything offered is honest, modern, and local enough for guests to experience Montenegro without the hotel resorting to folklore.

Hotel rooms
The hotel features 27 rooms and suites in various categories. We stayed in the Kamen (Stone) room, which felt more like a private living room, the size of an average studio apartment, than a classic hotel room. High ceilings, a small kitchen, a spacious living room, and a bedroom visually separated by a vintage room divider create the feel of a tiny apartment.
The orange-hued Asian kimonos and matching toiletry bags add an unexpected pop of colour.
Industrial elements in the decor reflect the interior’s recurring theme. Metal frames and heavy doors with perforated, ribbed glass evoke the former military workshop. At the same time, wooden flooring, carpets, a cosy couch, and excellent bed linen soften its rigorous lines. Select furniture pieces appear vintage, some even collector-like. The room’s heart is a spacious industrial bookshelf atop a snug lounge chair. It holds mostly French books, including one from 1946, plus carefully selected pieces from another era: a vintage alarm clock, a phone, and a water jug. The orange-hued Asian kimonos and matching toiletry bags add an unexpected pop of colour. The bags can be purchased, while the otherwise quality bathroom cosmetics lacked a manufacturer’s name. And the bed? Stunning. A five out of five. The real luxury of the Kamen room isn’t square metres, but the feeling of staying in a private house.

Meetings centre
Centrale Luštica Bay by Angsana is not a classic conference hotel, which is why it is intriguing. Its greatest advantage is not the number of meeting rooms, but the open community space in the lobby. The reception, bar, and restaurant combine into the hotel’s living room, adaptable for receptions, dinners, product launches, or smaller lectures. With only 27 rooms, it is tailor-made for exclusive groups, executive meetings or boutique incentive programmes. Renting out the venue makes sense, as long as the event organiser confirms it with the hotel in advance. Another ace up the hotel’s sleeve is Piazza Centrale, more than a backdrop, but a tried-and-tested venue for concerts, theatre plays, opera shows, and events. For larger events, event organisers should look to The Chedi Luštica Bay. Its conference centre includes a 175-square-metre hall that can host up to 168 attendees in a theatre setting, plus a smaller meeting room and a foyer. Further afield, event organisers can rent the amphitheatre in the Marina Village, with terraces overlooking the Adriatic, the marina, the piers or the beaches.
Centrale does not compete with larger conference hotels. Its advantage is being different: for smaller groups, it offers privacy, unique design, and the option to make the entire hotel an event venue.
This makes it one of the most alluring Montenegrin options for product launches, creative retreats, or exclusive incentives.

DESSERT – The extras
Angsana Spa may be boutique in size, but its design exceeds its scale. It offers a Finnish sauna, steam bath and massage room. During our visit, a master Thai masseur was fully booked. While the offering is not extensive, it is high quality and well suited to a 27-room boutique hotel. The spa does not aim to compete with larger wellness centres. It aims to offer relaxation after a meeting, a long journey, or an active day exploring Luštica Bay. In this context, the hotel’s spa did a tremendous job.

FLOP – NEGATIVE SURPRISES
The hotel’s offering is well made, but it isn’t presented clearly or systematically enough for guests. Before arrival, guests need clearer information about access, parking, shuttle transport, beaches, and resort experiences. The resort offers ample services, yet guests too often have to discover them on their own. The resort should also be more transparent about its local ingredient sources and the quality of its bathroom cosmetics. If the hotel builds its narrative on local products and sustainability, guests should be able to see who stands behind them. The greatest flop, though, is the generic, pre-baked croissants at breakfast. In such a polished boutique hotel, they should be replaced with fresh, housemade desserts. Such a tiny detail can easily tarnish an otherwise exceptional story.
TOP – POSITIVE SURPRISES
The central community space is the hotel’s heart and its most versatile area. In the morning, it serves as a breakfast area; during the day, it becomes a relaxed living room; and in the evening, it turns into a restaurant. When privatised, it can be a very convincing event venue. Transitions between functions feel organic, so the space never feels improvised. The biggest surprise is the team, which doesn’t recite the hotel’s story with learned phrases but embodies the concept. A personal welcome with fresh pastry and a glass of bubbly attests to that. A small gesture can go a long way.
SUSTAINABLE ENDEAVOURS
At Centrale Luštica Bay, sustainability isn’t a loud marketing promise, but an action discreetly embedded in everyday operations. The building itself is the best proof.
Reinvigorating a former military warehouse is a best-practice example of reusing existing architecture while retaining a space’s identity.
The hotel also serves cosmetics in large shampoo dispensers, offers shuttle transport, and has EV charging stations throughout the area. The horticultural setting also deserves praise and is quickly becoming one of the destination’s signature elements. Even the cuisine is vegetable-based and mostly uses local ingredients. Traceability remains an area for improvement. Guests should be able to discern where the cheese, Njeguši prosciutto, vegetables, and bathroom cosmetics come from. Truth be told, sustainability only becomes credible when it can be tied to individual people, places and products. That is when it stops being regular hotel practice and becomes a story a guest can feel, and even take home.
CREATIVITY
According to designer creativity, the hotel is a solid nine, sometimes even a ten. As soon as guests reach reception, they will be taken aback by half an old Renault 4, suspended from the wall. The bookshelves, industrial doors, vintage phones, retro objects, orange kimonos, and relaxed staff uniforms were not chosen at random. Each element tells the same story: a former military storehouse given a new lease of life.
The hotel is somewhat less creative in designing and selling experiences. Industrial heritage, local community, and one-off ambience offer a unique starting point for themed events, guided stories, creative workshops, and original incentive programmes. The hotel boasts abundant content, yet it hasn’t fully translated it into products that guests or organisers can easily understand and order. The next step, then, is not a new design element but a creative evolution of the experience.

Centrale LUŠTICA BAY BY ANGSANA appeals to architects, designers, creative teams, and event organisers who cherish minimalism, clean lines, and thoughtfully curated content.
Centrale Luštica Bay by Angsana ranks among the rare niche of industrial boutique hotels. This hotel didn’t develop spontaneously over the years. Instead, the concept was clear from the start: transform the former military storehouse into a modern, toned-down, design-savvy hospitality destination. The hotel’s greatest achievement is that the idea didn’t stay etched in the design. Its youthful hotel team lives and breathes the narrative. That is why homeliness isn’t a mere marketing promise, but a feeling guests actually experience. Of course, this isn’t a hotel for everyone, and that’s how it should be. The finest boutique hotels are never universal. Guests seeking traditional elegance, glitz and glamour and endless self-service buffets would feel out of place here. Centrale appeals to architects, designers, creative teams, and event organisers who cherish minimalism, clean lines, and thoughtfully curated content. The hotel caters to anyone who understands the less-is-more philosophy. We recommend visiting outside the main tourist season for organising events. That is when the resort is more peaceful, prices are friendlier, and privacy feels more profound. If you rent the entire hotel, the property becomes ideal for leadership retreats, product launches, or boutique incentives. Our final score of 4.93 and three meeting stars are well-deserved, not so much because of the scope of the offering, but because of its coherence, character and credibility. They still have room to improve how they communicate experiences, but the foundation is exceptionally sturdy.
