The 93rd Craftroots Handicraft Exhibition commences in Kanpur on 23 October, bringing together more than 90 artisans from 22 states to showcase India’s traditional crafts and handmade products. Inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, the five-day exhibition is being held at the Convention Centre in Chunniganj and will continue until 27 October.
Organised by Gramshree and Craftroots, the exhibition aims to connect artisans with consumers, promote traditional craftsmanship and create greater market opportunities for handmade products. Visitors can explore a range of regional art forms, including Firozabad glasswork from Uttar Pradesh, Kosa silk from Chhattisgarh, Bagh prints from Madhya Pradesh and Pattachitra art from West Bengal.
During her visit, Governor Patel interacted with artisans, learnt about their creative processes and appreciated their efforts to preserve traditional skills. She emphasised the importance of providing craftspeople with market access, fair prices, training and recognition to strengthen their livelihoods and encourage younger generations to continue these art forms.
The exhibition also features live demonstrations, allowing visitors to observe traditional techniques and understand the craftsmanship behind finished products. Items are available for purchase, with prices starting at ₹50, offering visitors an opportunity to support artisans directly.
Craftroots, an initiative associated with Gramshree, works to promote Indian handicrafts and create livelihood opportunities for craftspeople. By bringing artisans from multiple regions together under one roof, the Kanpur exhibition provides a platform for cultural exchange, consumer engagement and the promotion of India’s diverse craft heritage.
