Asia-Pacific has overtaken Europe as the global leader in large-scale exhibition facilities, according to the 2026 edition of the World Map of Exhibition Venues report released by UFI, The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, and produced by consultancy jwc.

The latest industry census reveals that Asia-Pacific is now home to 41 exhibition venues offering 100,000m2 or more of gross indoor space, surpassing Europe’s 38 mega-venues. A year prior, both regions held an equal share of the world’s largest facilities. Overall, global indoor exhibition capacity grew to 45.2 million m2 across 1,565 venues as of December 31, 2025 –representing a year-on-year increase of 35 venues and approximately 0.9 million m2.

Asia-Pacific now accounts for 38.3% of total global exhibition capacity (17.3 million m2), widening its lead over Europe, which holds 35.8%. North America ranks third with a 16.7% share. Emerging markets are also expanding their physical footprints, with Central & South America (4.8%) and the Middle East & Africa (4.5%) combined representing 9.3% of global capacity, up from 8.4% in the previous survey.

Venue sizing varies significantly by market. Asia-Pacific venues average 39,238m2 per facility, compared to 29,802m2 in Europe and 17,327 sqm in Central & South America, which remains the only region without a venue exceeding 100,000m2. Despite the growth in mega-venues, smaller facilities continue to dominate the sector globally. Venues under 20,000m2 make up 62% of the market, while mid-sized spaces (20,000 to 99,999m2) account for 33%. Venues of 100,000m2 or more represent just 5% of the global total (84 venues), with Guangzhou’s Canton Fair Complex remaining the world’s largest venue at 504,000m2.

Country-level capacity remains heavily concentrated in a small group of major markets. China controls nearly a third of all global indoor space at 30.7%, followed by the US (13.9%) and Germany (7.0%). Together with Italy and France, the top five markets represent almost 63% of the world’s venue inventory. Globally, 22 key national markets currently offer more than 300,000m2 of total indoor exhibition space each.

Commenting on the shift, UFI CEO Chris Skeith, OBE, noted that venue development is closely tracking broader industrial growth worldwide, providing event organisers with the infrastructure required to expand into high-growth regional markets.

However, jwc president and CEO Jochen Witt emphasised that expanding footprint alone should not be the primary goal for destination managers. He noted that destination success increasingly depends on matching venue capacity and service quality to specific market demand, rather than simply competing on square footage, as facilities under 20,000m2 remain fully sufficient for many regional markets.
