Sun Group投资推动越南富国岛转型亚太MICE枢纽,备战2027年APEC峰会
Sun Group drives Phu Quoc’s transformation into regional MICE hub
Vietnamese conglomerate Sun Group is making massive investments across its hotel, aviation, and event infrastructure to transform the island of Phu Quoc from a leisure getaway into one of Asia-Pacific’s leading business events destinations.
“We are investing heavily in Phu Quoc. Currently, Phu Quoc is more of a leisure destination, but we want to turn it into a strong MICE destination,” said Nguyen Quoc Loc, policy development expert in Sun Group’s group development division.

Ahead of the island hosting 35th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2027, Sun Group is constructing a dedicated beachfront “APEC District”, featuring a new convention and exhibition centre with the world’s largest column-free ballroom, a multipurpose theatre, and 10 business events-focused hotels. Construction is slated for completion in 2Q2027.
The group is also scaling up air capacity. Newly-launched Sun PhuQuoc Airlines plans to expand its fleet from 30 to 100 aircraft by 2030, while Phu Quoc International Airport – managed by Changi Airport Group – undergoes an expansion that includes a dedicated VIP terminal and a new passenger terminal opening in April 2027.
Access is further supported by a 30-day visa-free policy, alongside ongoing government plans to transform Phu Quoc into a free economic zone to drive investment.
“There is huge potential on Phu Quoc to grow its MICE offerings even further,” Nguyen added, emphasising the importance of maintaining momentum beyond APEC 2027. “Phu Quoc is a growing destination with strong future potential, and this is where we see MICE playing a part. This is the start of something very big.”
