Wellington has secured the hosting rights for the 2027 Indigenous Wellbeing Conference (IWC).
Organised by the Australian & New Zealand Mental Health Association (ANZMHA), the annual gathering will bring up to 400 delegates from Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands to the Tākina Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre from October 10 to 12, 2027.

Supported by Business Events Wellington and Tourism New Zealand Business Events, the conference will focus on Indigenous-led approaches to health, mental health, education, justice, and policy.
Trent Bruinsma, general manager of AST Management, highlighted the region’s contribution to the conference, stating that the event showcases grassroots health initiatives, academic research, and community-led case studies across Australasia and the Pacific. He noted Wellington’s winning bid stood out for its cultural immersion programmes, local expert network, and event infrastructure.
Business Events Wellington Manager Loryn Blaikie added that the city’s bid integrated local iwi (people), academic networks, and authentic cultural experiences, including marae visits, Waka tours, and historical navigation of Pōneke.
Holding the event in Aotearoa New Zealand’s capital also offers direct access to key policy makers. Grant Davidson, chief executive of Hauora Taiwhenua Rural Health Network, welcomed the announcement, noting that proximity to Parliament will help foster a lasting legacy for Indigenous health governance globally.
