The figure was revealed by Ottawa Tourism at IMEX America, alongside the Rogers Centre Ottawa, which this year marks 15 years since opening. Ottawa Tourism attributes the development to sustained international outreach, sector-specific research and relationships built over many years. One recent success is the award of the 2032 General Assembly and Scientific Symposium of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI GASS) to Ottawa, following an opportunity first identified in 2013.
Ottawa Strengthens Position as an International Association Conference Destination
Ottawa focuses its business events strategy on sectors including information and communications technology, cybersecurity, engineering, life sciences and defence. The city connects organisers with specialists from government, academia and industry to support congresses with relevant local expertise. Further evidence of this approach is the International Institute of Municipal Clerks Annual Conference, secured for 2029 with support from Destination Canada’s International Convention Attraction Fund. The event is expected to attract around 1,000 delegates, generate 2,991 room nights and contribute an estimated CAD 2.8 million in economic impact.
