Global business travel spending is projected to reach a record US$ 1.71 trillion in 2026, registering 7.2 per cent year-on-year growth, according to GBTA figures cited in oneworld’s Meetings and Events Trends 2027–2030 report, developed with Globetrender. However, business trip volumes are expected to increase by just 1.3 per cent, from 1.82 billion in 2025 to 1.84 billion in 2026, highlighting rising expenditure per journey.

The report indicates that higher travel costs are placing greater pressure on organisations to demonstrate measurable returns from international meetings and events. Corporate travellers are increasingly combining conferences with client meetings, training, and team collaboration to maximise each trip.

Fulvio Origo, Senior Director, EMEA, GBTA, emphasised that meetings must contribute to clear business objectives, including revenue generation, employee development, and customer engagement. The findings suggest that event organisers must prioritise tangible outcomes over attendance figures, strengthening the commercial justification for face-to-face gatherings.
