FROM SOKOL GYMNASTICS EVENTS TO MODERN CONFERENCES

When architect Herman Hus saw his design for Sokolski dom Bled come to life in 1932, he probably never imagined that, less than a century later, the building would become a venue for events extending far beyond the world of sport. Built in the modernist style characteristic of the period, with a composition of distinct volumes housing the gymnasium, stage tower and lower changing-room section, it is now one of Bled’s most distinctive event venues.

Once a central part of Bled’s social life for decades, the renovated building now opens its doors to conferences, business meetings, cultural events and receptions. Its greatest asset is a space with a character of its own, complemented by its connection to the international environment of IEDC – Bled School of Management. The first guests experienced this combination in June 2026 at the Money Talks conference, marking the venue’s debut as part of IEDC’s event portfolio.

The renovation offers event organisers an interesting combination of features. The main hall has retained its exposed brickwork, providing a distinctive backdrop for lectures, discussions and presentations. The former performers’ changing room has been transformed into a speakers’ room; the gymnasium changing rooms have been converted into a reception area and toilets, while the former caretaker’s flat now serves as a catering area with a terrace. This layout allows an event to unfold seamlessly, from arrival and registration to the main programme and more informal conversations afterwards.

The architects from 3biro also renovated the roof, windows, doors and interior surfaces. The building is now equipped with modern heating, cooling and ventilation systems powered by a heat pump. With a total floor area of 780 m², the venue combines modernist heritage with the comfort expected by today’s event participants. It can accommodate up to 400 guests.

Its connection with the business school gives the venue a broader significance: conferences and meetings can take place in an environment where international participants, knowledge and culture already come together. At the same time, Sokolski dom retains its original purpose – to remain a place that gives locals a reason to walk through its doors.
