Maharashtra Unveils ₹26,500 Crore Dighi Shipyard Proposal, Projects 50,000 Jobs
Maharashtra has outlined an ambitious maritime development agenda, highlighting a proposed ₹26,500 crore shipyard project at Dighi Port in Raigad district with the potential to generate approximately 50,000 jobs. The announcement was made by Maharashtra Minister for Fisheries and Ports Development Nitesh Narayan Rane at the fourth edition of FICCI’s Maritime India Conference & Expo 2026, being held from 2-4 November 2026 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai.
The proposed project is envisaged as a Greenfield Shipbuilding Cluster through a tripartite arrangement involving the Maharashtra Government, the Union Government and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited. The development is expected to strengthen the state’s shipbuilding capabilities while creating employment opportunities across the maritime sector.
Alongside the shipyard proposal, Rane outlined plans for a new Maritime Development Policy aimed at improving the investment environment. Key provisions are expected to include single-window clearances and administrative facilitation for investors in shipbuilding, ship repair and port infrastructure. The state also plans to support project development through assistance with environmental clearances and land acquisition.
Organised by FICCI with the support of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the three-day conference brings together stakeholders from across the maritime ecosystem to discuss investment, infrastructure, shipping and sectoral development.
